Founded by Melissa Ong and Yanni Ching, and officially launched by Nurul Izzah Anwar on 3 July 2024 in MITEC Kuala Lumpur, this groundbreaking initiative is dedicated to empowering and connecting women in the agricultural and food technology sectors. The Women Impact Network in Agrifoodtech strives to build a more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient agrifoodtech sector, where women can thrive and lead with confidence and recognition.

Key Aspects of the Network​

MISSION

The mission of the Women Impact Network in Agrifoodtech is to empower, connect, and inspire women in the agricultural and food technology sectors. By fostering a supportive and inclusive community, the network aims to drive innovation, provide mentorship, and promote professional growth. The network advocates for equality in investment and ensures that women are recognized on merit and not gender.

GOAL

The primary goal of the Women Impact Network in Agrifoodtech is to create a thriving, equitable, and inclusive ecosystem where women are empowered to lead, innovate, and excel in the agricultural and food technology sectors.

Criteria to Join the Women Impact Network in Agrifoodtech

By joining the Women Impact Network in Agrifoodtech, members gain access to a supportive community, career advancement opportunities, and a collective voice advocating for positive change in the industry.

  1. Professional Involvement in Agrifoodtech

    • Must be actively working in the agricultural or food technology sectors.

    • Includes professionals from academia, industry, startups, and research institutions.

  2. Commitment to Gender Equality

    • Demonstrate a commitment to promoting gender equality and diversity in the workplace and industry.

    • Supportive of initiatives aimed at empowering women in agrifoodtech.

  3. Experience and Expertise

    • Possess relevant experience and expertise in agrifoodtech, with a minimum of 2 years in the field. 

    • Open to women at all career stages, from early-career professionals to seasoned experts. Fresh graduates are encouraged to join.

  4. Leadership and Collaboration

    • Willingness to take on leadership roles within the network, such as mentoring, organizing events, or participating in committees.

    • Open to collaborating with other members on projects, research, and initiatives.

  5. Active Participation

    • Commitment to actively participate in network activities, including attending events, workshops, and meetings.

    • Engage in discussions, share knowledge, and contribute to the community.

  6. Advocacy for Sustainability, Impact and Innovation

    • Support the network’s mission to drive sustainability, Impact and innovation in agrifoodtech.

    • Involved in or interested in projects and initiatives that promote sustainable agricultural practices and innovative food technologies.

  7. Ethical Standards

    • Adhere to high ethical standards and professional conduct.

    • Respect the network’s rules of engagement and PDPA.​

Application Process

  1. Submission of Application

    • Interested individuals must complete an application form detailing their professional background, experience, and reasons for joining the network.

  2. Review and Approval

    • Applications will be reviewed by the network leaders.

    • Approval will be based on the criteria listed above and the applicant’s potential to contribute to the network’s goals.

  3. Orientation and Onboarding

    • Approved members will participate in an orientation session to familiarize themselves with the network’s mission, activities, and opportunities.

    • New members will be introduced to the community and provided with resources to get started.
